Plumbing issues are some of the most common problems experienced by home owners this time of year and they are the last type of problems that you want to deal with while your family is visiting.

Make sure that none of your drains are clogged by filling all of your sinks and bathtubs with hot water and letting them drain. If you notice that a drain is clogged, you can pour drain cleaner down the drain to clear it out.

Water Heater

If your water heater is more than a few years old or is giving you any sort of doubt, it would be wise to have a technician come out and make sure that it is running properly. The last thing you want to go out while family is in town is your water heater.

Garbage Disposal

With all of the use that your kitchen sink gets during Thanksgiving, you’ll definitely want to check to see if your garbage disposal is functioning properly and is clean. To clean your garbage disposal, simply pour a tablespoon of baking soda into the system and let it sit for about a minute or two. Then, let cold water flow into the garbage disposal for about ten seconds to wash it out.

With the amount of food that you’ll be dealing with during Thanksgiving, you’re going to need as much space as possible.

Clear all unnecessary clutter off of your counter tops. Put away any dishes that are just sitting out, as they are only taking up valuable space.

Any foods that might be old or expired need to go! Try to organize your fridge’s contents in ways that provide the most extra space and utilize your drawers and compartments.
